Notes from a Newbie
My first year going to Burning Man. I'm filled with three parts excitement, 2 parts trepidation, 2 parts wonder, 1 part fear and 2 parts miscellaneous. Getting the Boutique ready to go is a huge undertaking, and in my worry wart personna I think, "will we have the people, will we have the finances, will we have the commitment?" I made my first bin run last week and picked up some stuff for the boutique. Each of us needs to supply 200 items of clothing. While I was there I found a black and white Holstein patterned large cloth bag and I cut off the bottom and voila, I have a skirt. I also made an adorable shrug/bolero type thing out of a pillow slip. I read on Will's weekly newsletter about a Black Rock chorus, and did a yippy-skippy dance. I sing in Aurora chorus here in Portland (120+ women strong), and I can't believe I'm going to belt it out with other burners on the playa. We've already been sent the sheet music for one of our songs. Tonight's a general meeting, and we'll have a chance to demonstrate the beauty and flexibility of our new website. Hurray for Roger, our web guru.
